Thoughts on small-scale solar energy

Hi folks,

I’d love to hear your thoughts about solar energy.

I first started working with solar electric systems a few years back when I was designing my first solar energy system for my DIY Camper Van.

The 380 W household solar panel was able to capture enough free solar energy to keep my 12 V 100 Ah Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) battery charged even in dreary springtime rainy St. John’s weather.

In the winter, there was even enough energy to be able to start and run my 12 V diesel cabin heater.

I removed my solar electric system from the camper van before I got rid of the van, and I’m now thinking of ways to put my solar panel and battery system to good use!

I’d like to set it up again at home and make the best of the free energy I could access.

One of the things I’d like to do with it is charge my eBike battery.

I am also thinking that I could use it to power my set of Raspberry Pi micro-servers, making the websites and apps I host on them solar-powered!!

What about you? Do you have any experiences with solar energy?

What do you think about small-scale solar electric systems? What would you do with one if you had access to one?
